The new electric line includes two trucks both capable of hauling 1000 lbs. There is a 2-passenger extended cab truck called the GreenTruck EVX 1000 or a 5-passenger crew cab truck called the GreenTruck EVR 1000. There are also two vans available. The 5-passenger cargo van called the EVC 1000 GreenVan or the 7-passenger EVP 1000 GreenVan. All the EVs use lead acid batteries similar to those found in most cars on the road. Vantage says the vehicles accelerate to a top speed of 25 mph in about 5 seconds, which not much slower than a Smart ForTwo. They have a range of around 60 miles before they require a four to six hour charge on standard house current. The cost of operating the vehicles could be as low as three cents per mile. Vantage expects to sell many of its EV utility vehicles to military and other government agencies as well as businesses that seek to benefit from its green and the financial advantages. The cost of the vehicles will be about $20,000 and the batteries are expected to last 30,000 miles.

A little bit of History...
Neighborhood Electric Car, aka Neighborhood Electric Vehicle, aka NEV is a category invented by NHTSA, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Association. Here's what you need to know:

• Speed: They don't go smokin' fast, but they're not golf carts, either. The "true" Neighborhood Electric Vehicles go at least 19 mph and no faster than 25 mph. They are designed to travel in "neighborhoods" or streets posted 35 mph or lower.
• Street Legal: It's okay to drive it on ordinary (35mph posted or less) streets, at least, in most states. Just stay off the freeway ; ) Check with our local municipality for the ordinance they have in place regarding the Neighborhood Electric Vehicle.
• Safety: Are these cars really SAFE out there with the Hummers? A true NEV, must adhere Federal Safety requirements. NEV'S are safer than a bicycle, moped, horse and buggy, or motorcycle, all of which share the roads with NEV'S.
• Charging: They plug into a standard 110v outlet (like the one where you plug in your toaster, for example). Generally it takes 6-8 hours to recharge them, depending on how drained the batteries are.
• Operating Costs: It costs from 1 penny a mile to operate them, depending on the price of electricity per kilowatt-hour in your neck of the woods.
• Purchase Price: Less than your average fossil-fuel-gobbler, that's for sure.; ) The average NEV will start at around $8,000 and can be customized with several options for each individual

• Tax Incentives: There may be a tax credit or incentive depending on where you live. Check with your accountant for any incentives or credits you may receive from purchasing a NEV.
